The Water Goddess piece was created during several Water Moons and Water Sun Season art sessions from 2020-2022. During the Cancer, Scorpio & Pisces Moons & Sun Seasons I would work to pull this goddess out of the layers of paint, ink, Prismacolors and markers. It was an emotional process.
This piece represents how emotions swirl around us and it's meant to encourage us to move them up thru our bodies and out into our headspace. Which is the opposite of the advice we're often given in a culture that invests so much energy in trying to keep us from accessing our Emotions as the Magical Gifts & Tools they are. We're taught to 'control or hide' our emotions because they can bother others or make us seem 'irrational, crazy, or difficult' but our Emotions are really there to show us our edges, our ShadowWeRK and when someone or something is out of bounds. When the toxic systems disconnected us from this Magical Gift & Tool it kept us from tending those edges, doing that ShadowWeRK and holding our boundaries. That disconnection allowed systems like patriarchy, whiteness and capitalism to take that power and use it against us.
This art is a spell to break the curse of that mindset and those systems. It invites us all to reclaim the power of our Emotions as Magical Gifts & Tools. When we do this, when we hold every Emotion as a powerful message regardless of whether we can justify or validate its source. Then, we can reconnect to these Magical Gifts & Tools for healing our SELF and the collective. We can use our Emotions as weapons against the toxic and oppressive systems, the same way it's used emotional reactions against us for centuries.
This reclaiming can be an act of Sweet Disruption and that was my intention for calling this goddess forward. I hope she brings you encouragement and that she reminds you that all of your feelings are valid and you are worthy of feeling them.
